Lyrics
A Little Bit of Love
Most of the melody and lyrics are 35 years old (That's Scary!) Sutter's never worked this up. I always loved the in your face emotion of early Motown. I guess this would be a white boy's take. This song was finished in 2012.
Just a little, whoa, just a little bit, just a little bit of love Is better than no love at all Sometimes we mistreat each other That always gives me the blues Now I'm staring at the ceiling I'm so afraid we're gonna lose All the keys to happiness All the dreams we share All the joy and tenderness Might vanish in thin air So let's don't let it go girl Let's don't let it slip away Cause finding love that last Baby Is a challenge day by day Let's take a vow and see it through In the face of danger we'll stand tall And just remember that A little love Is better than no kind of love at all (Chorus) No kind of love at all Leaves you nothing but loneliness No kind of love at all Only sorrow and pain No kind of love at all We once were standing out in the sun No kind of love at all We gotta come in from the rain No kind of love at all Desperation and all our fears No kind of love at all They set you up for a fall Just remember that a little love Is better than no kind of love at all So here I sit and wonder Honey, what we gonna do There's just no way around it It's all up to me and you So let's take a vow and see it through In the face of danger we'll stand tall And just remember that A little love Is better than no kind of love at all (Chorus) No kind of love at all It leaves you nothing but loneliness No kind of love at all Only sorrow and pain No kind of love at all We once were standing out in the sun No kind of love at all We gotta come in from the rain No kind of love at all Desperation and all our fears No kind of love at all They set you up for a fall Just remember that a little love Is better than no kind of love at all Whoa, a little love is better Than no kind of love at all
Never Too Late
Only song on the CD thst Sutter's did live. This first time recording is very close to their live performance. I believe that J. Papp started whacking out that opening riff at a sound check at the Switch in Raleigh. The road is not kind to relationships. We were both struggling with our ladies at home. Didn't take long to write.
Granted, Things are going to pieces Slanted, Someone's gonna be left holding the bag Enchanted, When I first met you You know my love for you honey It's not a joke or a gag (Chorus) It's never too late, Never too late To start it all over again There's always time to open up To your lover and friend We'll cross the bridges when wecome to them But don't let the story end Because it's never too late To start all over again Tryin anything, I can get a hold to Just to get your image off my mind Doin crazy things, Runnin wild and naked Drinkin barrels of Jack Daniels liquor Keep fallin further behind (Chorus) It's never too late, Never too late To start it all over again There's always time to open up To your lover and friend We'll cross the bridges when wecome to them But don't let the story end Because it's never too late To start all over again (Bridge) Take your time, don't hesitate too long If it's more than a minute, I can't go on C'mon mama, tell me what you're gonna do now Should I shower and shave, Get myself in line I'll give you riches and love The stars up above forever But I just can't go on if you leave me behind (Chorus) It's never too late, Never too late To start it all over again There's always time to open up To your lover and friend We'll cross the bridges when wecome to them But don't let the story end Because it's never too late To start all over again Because it's never too late To start all over again
Modern Man
Saddled up took down the highway
On a Harley Hog one man attack
Thinking I might slip under the radar
I got no plans of coming back
This world has gotten complicated
I wasn't born to get in line
Information over loaded
Forgotten just how to unwind
Crack the whips, The natural order
Boy what you're doing ain't in style
Priorities and what you value
Ain't what we got here in your file
My soul ain't just another number
The gift of life means more than that
I can't accept the mark in slumber
Your modern world ain't where it's at
I tried to drink away frustration
I shot poison in my veins
Your map is fitting into masses
Your rappings driving me insane
I pray for life that is quite simple
I long for innocence again
Society just can't supply it
This modern world is outta hand
No Better Than This
Dole Shaffer plays no bad leads...I sure do like this one!
The lake is like glass, The geese flying past As the morning sun starts to rise Alone with my thoughts, There's fish to be caught Yet I can still see your eyes Last night we fell in love all over again It was the closest to Heaven that we've ever been Now I'm out on the water, Really no place to go Surrounded by beauty, Baby I love you so I'm sailing with memory, Of your touch and kiss It don't get no better, No better than this I'll treasure the day, Knowing while I'm away You'll wake up and call out my name You'll long for my touch, I'll miss you so much This night, they will be more of the same Some things in life, Just get better with time Two hearts beat as one, Your heart and mine When I sail into harbor, And you're standing there I'll count all the blessings the two of us share Convinced that a love like ours cannot miss It don't get no better, No better than this Last night we fell in love all over again It was the closest to Heaven that we've ever been Now I'm out on the water, Really no place to go Surrounded by beauty, Baby I love you so I'm sailing with memory, Of your touch and kiss It don't get no better, No better than this No, It don't get no better, No better than this
Dead Elvis Pictures
Ode to a honest to goodness belly dancer in Virginia
Take all the pictures of your dancing mama Take all the pictures of dead Elvis too Pack up all your strumpet clothes You're gonna need 'em I suppose To find another chump to take good care of you You came to me seeking some kind of redemption You whined the world has turned its back on you I took you and your past With no exemption But some things can not change and never do (Chorus) I'm taking back the air that you breathe here I'm taking back the peace from your soul You can go back to the streets with your worst fears I'm taking back my heart that you stole Well there's the door and here's a little money The red light district is waiting there for you To think that you could change Is some what funny The color of your love is black and blue (Chorus) I'm taking back the air that you breathe here I'm taking back the peace from your soul You can go back to the streets with your worst fears I'm taking back my heart that you stole
Chase These Blues Away
A good time was always had at Mr. Sugg's Honky Tonk, outside of Grifton, N. Carolina. Clyde Mattocks of Super Grit said he isn't gonna take me to the court house for using their name. Damn, those were some "Good ol' days!"
Tonight I'm headed out To the Redneck Saloon And hear the Super Grit Cowboy Band I know I needs me some fun Feels like I'm always on the run My Bonnie ran off with a traveling salesman Somebody cut me a break Don't know how much more I can take Things ain't going according to my plan Yea there's a crack in my world I need a fun loving girl And hear a high steppin country pickin band (Chorus) So, so long to all those sad songs They've got dues I've already paid I held on too long to a love that's all wrong Hey good lookin, What do you say Let me buy you a shot, It won't cost you a lot I just wanna hear you say You'll help me chase these blues away (Chorus) So, so long to all those sad songs They've got dues I've already paid I held on too long to a love that's all wrong Hey good lookin, What do you say Let me buy you a shot, It won't cost you a lot I just wanna hear you say You'll help me chase these blues away
Lost Treasure
I once possessed a treasure Worth more than diamonds and gold A once in a life time woman Gave me her heart to hold I was so young and restless I acted callous and cold A fool that buried treasure Gave up the mate to his soul It's nothing new for me to be foolish I've lived with that so many years So much little boy still to deal with Trapped 'tween the laughter and tears But losing her was the big one I have to live with each day A boy that didn't value the treasure Forever it's buried away (Bridge) I have walked through the graveyard where broken dreams die There's no resurrection that money can buy And gold and diamonds are worthless to what a heart holds inside I once possessed a treasure Worth more than diamonds and gold A once in a life time woman Gave me her heart to hold I was so young and restless I acted callous and cold A fool that buried treasure Gave up the mate to his soul
I'd Look Good On You
Don't Ask!
I can't think of anybody better than me to give your love to There ain't another man breathing that wants you more than I do You can search high and low It's an impossible task To get what you need All you gotta do is ask (Chorus) So lighten up and pucker up and give me a kiss This could be the kinda love we don't wanna miss I got a sneaking suspicion it came outta the blue The latest fashion screaming I'd look good on you I've known you forever but something happened just the other day It was a look in your eye that just melted me away I can't seem to fight it And I'm not really trying I'll put a smile on your face And girl you know I ain't lying (Chorus) So lighten up and pucker up and give me a kiss You could eliminate the rest of the list Bet that I would fit you like your favorite shoes Calvin Klein would surely agree I'd look good on you (Bridge) I'll admit I've been looking here I've been looking there This undeniable attraction that I have for you, I ain't found it anywhere I can't think of anybody better than me to give your love to There ain't another man breathing that wants you more than I do You can search high and low It's an impossible task To get what you need All you gotta do is ask (Chorus) So lighten up and pucker up and give me a kiss This could be the kinda love we don't wanna miss I got a sneaking suspicion it came outta the blue Valentino would validate I'd look good on you
The Tale of Tumbling Blanche
We're all God's lil' children...
They call her Tumbling Blanche Residing at the Bunny Ranch Those crotchless pants aren't always what they seem When she's not laid out on her back Under a Romeo's attack That girl has still got visions and a dream (Bridge) Yea, I guess you could say I care a lot about her Yea, I guess you could say I liked that woman right from the start I've been around the block a time or two Stripped debutantes and girls born with silver spoons Able to fly all the way around the moon But I ain't never seen a woman with so much heart (Chorus) She always cries when she sees a child That no one will love She's always in awe when the stars come out Shine their light from above She keeps telling me I might not always be here with you baby If the Man lets me fly away like a dove just remember Many men had my body Only you have my love
Somebody
Somebody stole the light out of somebody's eyes today Somebody loaded up a shotgun and blew somebody away Somebody hurt a child Somebody turned his back on a hungry man Somebody heard somebody crying and didn't lend a hand Somebody hid...in a world gone wild (Chorus) Somebody's gonna have to pay for all of this pain Somebody's gonna be left out in the cold, cold rain When the role is called up yonder I hope they call my name Cause I don't want to wallow in the sorrow and shame Cause somebody's gonna have to pay for all of this pain Somebody cheated some old folks out of savings today Somebody saw somebody mugged somebody ran away Somebody didn't get involved somebody didn't wanna see Somebody laughed at a poor man, said come what may Somebody saw somebody begging and turned his head away Somebody stole somebody's farm so you better believe (Chorus) Somebody's gonna have to pay for the misery Somebody's gonna have to pay, I hope it ain't me I was standing in the darkness with the rest of the sin I ain't walking on water but I sure let him in Cause somebody's gonna have to pay for this misery (Bridge) No matter how hard we try We can't steal the blue from the sky We can't dry up the ocean Or keep the sun from shining But somebody's gonna have to pay for all of this pain Somebody's gonna be calling his name in vain When Saint Peter's at the gate turning the pages I hope I'll be there singing Rock of Ages
Wine, Women, and Song
I was born in Carolina A kinda sleepy southern town I never once got bored, Rarely drew my sword Said my prayers when the sun went down Directed by a pretty straight moral compass Even then I knew they'd come a day When all the good things that My mama and daddy taught me would get in my way I always was attracted to the night life Even then I knew right from wrong I set out to see if I could PHD in Wine, Women, and Song There was the liquor that flowed like water There were the women that I would call No big mystery, I know that they could see I gave them damned little of nothing at all Through it all I always kept a song in my heart When I examine the puzzle it's always a part A part that nourishes and sustained me for so very long It's still here to write the story of the Wine, Women, and Song (Chorus) Wine, Women, and Song Partner, you could never give me too much Wine, Women, and Song It all seemed to come so easily Wine, Women, and Song I drank it, love it, sang it nearly killed me Wine, Women, and Song It finally put me down on my knees Well the years have gone by so quickly Now the twilight is setting in It's the simple truth, I know I'm living proof My experience is my best friend I realize I didn't know what was best for myself I see the turns in the road where I went wrong I had to drink every drink, Love every woman I did To write the story about the Wine, Women, and Song (Chorus) Wine, Women, and Song Partner, you could never give me too much Wine, Women, and Song It all seemed to come so easily Wine, Women, and Song I drank it, love it, sang it nearly killed me Wine, Women, and Song It finally put me down on my knees
